In light of their current run of form, Richmond insiders are reportedly concerned they’ll lose Dustin Martin in the final minute of contract negotiations. The spate of close losses on the field seems to have permeated into off field matters, as the club prepares to retain Martin in an active market that sees multiple clubs trying to secure the star’s services.

An anonymous club insider has revealed that the Tigers hold serious doubts about their ability to keep Martin, particularly as negotiations reach the final minutes. The insider said, “confidence around the club has been severely shaken. With the recent spate of last gasp losses, I won’t even believe we’ve got him if he signs a contract with us at the end of the year. The only way I’ll believe it is when I see him on the ground for next year’s Round One game in a yellow and black jumper. Then, and only then, will I believe that we’ve still got him.”

The comments have both shocked and amused fans from opposition clubs, as Richmond’s failure to hang on in close games continues to make headlines. And now the impact of these failures could spread beyond the win/loss columns on the ladder.
