Rosanna 30-something Sarah McDonald has recently joined a 24-hour gym after being seduced by the option of being able to workout “at any time”. Struggling to fit a regular exercise regime into her hectic professional and social life, Sarah said the flexibility of opening hours really appealed to her busy lifestyle.

Sarah’s reason for joining the local health club are at odds with a recent report from Any Gender’s Health magazine which claimed that unless you were a shift worker, there was a 1-2% chance that you would attend a gym outside of the typical opening hours of 6.00am to 10.00pm. And even that 1-2% likelihood was limited to occasional use, not regular visits.

When told of the report, Sarah fell quiet for a long 10 seconds before saying, “are normal gyms open from 6.00am to 10.00pm? Wow, I didn’t even realise. But, you know, it’s still handy that it’s open for 24 hours, you just never know when I might need to smash out a session.”
